a guardian He is.’ (Āl ʿImrān 3:173). Abraham pronounced it when he was thrown into the fire, and Muhammad ﷺ said it when people told him, ‘Indeed, the people have gathered against you’ (Āl ʿImrān 3:173).
Concerning Satan’s approaches to the son of Adam:
Allah the Exalted says: “And say: ‘My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils, and I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they be present with me’” (al-Muʾminūn 23:98–99).
In the report of Abū Saʿīd and others it is related that the Prophet ﷺ used to say, “I seek refuge in Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing, from the accursed devil—from his whisper, his puffing, and his spitting—” in obedience to Allah’s words: “If a prompting from Satan should incite you, then seek refuge in Allah; indeed, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing” (Fussilat 41:36).
The adhān drives Satan away. The Prophet ﷺ said: “When the call to prayer is given, Satan turns and flees, emitting wind. When the call is finished he returns. When the second call (iqāmah) is made he turns and flees again—meaning, when the prayer is about to begin—and when the iqāmah is concluded he comes back.”
