ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say, after giving the closing salām of every prayer:
“There is no god but Allah alone, without partner; His is the dominion and His is all praise, and He has power over all things. There is no might nor power except with Allah. There is no god but Allah, and we worship none but Him. His is every bounty, His is every favor, and His is the most excellent praise. There is no god but Allah; we devote the religion to Him alone, even though the disbelievers should dislike it.”
Ibn al-Zubayr added, “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would recite these words of tawḥīd at the end of every prayer.” Reported by Muslim.
Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the poor Emigrants came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, “The wealthy have carried off the highest ranks and lasting bliss. They pray as we pray and fast as we fast, but they have surplus wealth with which they perform ḥajj and ʿumrah, strive in Allah’s cause, and give in charity.”
He replied, “Shall I not teach you something by which you will catch up with those who have outstripped you, surpass those who follow you, and none will be better than you except one who does the same as you do?”
They said, “Indeed, O Messenger of Allah!” He said, “After every prayer, glorify Allah, praise Him, and magnify Him thirty-three times each.”
Abū Ṣāliḥ commented, “He would say: ‘Subḥān Allah (Glory be to Allah), al-ḥamdu lillāh (praise be to Allah), and Allāhu akbar (Allah is the Greatest)’ until each of them reached thirty-three.” Agreed upon.
He (Abū Hurayrah) also narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
