—that is, a deficiency, liability, and remorse. Reported by Abu Dawud.
The Virtue of Tahmid, Tahlil, and Tasbih
In the two authentic collections it is related from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Whoever says, ‘lā ilāha illā Allāh, waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu, lahul-mulk wa lahul-ḥamd, wa huwa ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr’ (There is no god but Allah, alone, without partner; sovereignty is His and to Him belongs all praise, and He is capable of all things) one hundred times in a day, it will count for him as the emancipation of ten slaves. One hundred good deeds will be recorded for him, one hundred sins will be erased from him, and it will serve as a protection from Satan that day until evening. No one will come with anything better than what he has brought, except a man who has done more than that.”
He also said, “Whoever says ‘subḥān Allāh wa bi-ḥamdih’ (Glory be to Allah and with His praise) one hundred times in a day, his sins will be wiped away even if they are as abundant as the foam of the sea.”
And in both collections as well, Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Two words are light upon the tongue, heavy upon the scales, and beloved to the Most Merciful: ‘subḥān Allāh wa bi-ḥamdih, subḥān Allāh al-ʿAẓīm’ (Glory be to Allah and with His praise; Glory be to Allah, the Tremendous).”
