“O Allah, to You I have bowed; in You I have believed, and to You I have submitted. Before You my hearing, my sight, my mind, my bones, and my nerves have humbled themselves.
When he raised his head from bowing he would say: “Allah hears those who praise Him. Our Lord, to You belongs all praise—filling the heavens, filling the earth, filling all that lies between them, and filling whatever else You will beyond that.”
And when he prostrated he would say in his prostration: “O Allah, to You I have prostrated; in You I have believed, and to You I have submitted. My face has prostrated to the One who created and fashioned it, and who opened its hearing and its sight. Blessed is Allah, the Best of creators.” Reported by Muslim.
ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say frequently in his bowing and in his prostration: ‘Subḥānak Allāhumma rabbanā wa biḥamdik, Allāhumma ighfir lī (Glory be to You, O Allah, our Lord, and with Your praise. O Allah, forgive me),’ applying the Quran.” Agreed upon.
She was alluding to the verse: “So glorify the praises of your Lord and seek His forgiveness. Surely He is ever Relenting.” [Q 110:3]
