my house without lifting his gaze toward the sky and saying, “O Allah, I seek refuge in You lest I stray or be led astray, slip or be made to slip, wrong or be wronged, act ignorantly or have ignorance shown to me.” It was narrated by the four Sunan compilers, and al-Tirmidhi graded it sound and authentic.
Entering the Home
Jabir ibn ‘Abd Allah said, “I heard the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, say: ‘When a man enters his house and invokes Allah’s name upon entering and before eating, Satan says, “You have no place to spend the night and no dinner.” But if he enters without mentioning Allah, Satan says, “You have secured lodging.” And if he neglects to mention Allah at his meal, Satan says, “You have secured lodging and dinner as well.”’” Recorded by Muslim.
Abu Malik al-Ash‘ari reported that the Messenger of Allah said, “When a man goes into his house, let him say: ‘O Allah, I ask You for the best of entries and the best of exits. In the name of Allah we enter, in the name of Allah we depart, and upon Allah, our Lord, we rely.’ Then he should greet his family.” Recorded by Abu Dawud.
