he says: Allāhumma ighfir lī (O Allah, forgive me), or he offers any other supplication, it will be granted. If he then performs ablution and prays, his prayer will be accepted.” Recorded by al-Bukhari.
Abū Umāmah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say, “Whoever lies down on his bed in a state of purity and remembers Allah until drowsiness overtakes him will not turn over during any part of the night and ask Allah for something of the good of this world or the next except that Allah will give it to him.” Reported by al-Tirmidhī, who said: “A ḥasan gharīb ḥadīth.”
ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, awoke during the night he would say: Lā ilāha illā anta, subḥānaka allāhumma, astaghfiruka li-dhanbī, wa asʾaluka raḥmatak, allāhumma zidnī ʿilman, wa lā tuzigh qalbī baʿda idh hadaytanī, wa hab lī min ladunka raḥmah, innaka anta al-Wahhāb (There is no god but You; glory be to You, O Allah; I seek Your forgiveness for my sin and I ask You for Your mercy. O Allah, increase me in knowledge, do not let my heart deviate after You have guided me, and grant me mercy from Yourself—for surely You are the Bestower). Recorded by Abū Dāwūd.
Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “When one of you wakes up, let him say: al-ḥamdu lillāh alladhī radda ʿalayya rūḥī, wa ʿāfānī fī jasadī (All praise is for Allah who has restored my soul to me and granted health to my body).”
