“Shall I not guide the two of you to something better for you than a servant? When you lie down in your bed, say Subḥāna-llāh (Glory be to Allah) thirty-three times, al-ḥamdu li-llāh (Praise be to Allah) thirty-three times, and Allāhu akbar (Allah is the Greatest) thirty-four times; that is better for you than a servant.”
ʿAli said, “I have never left them since I heard them from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.” He was asked, “Not even on the night of Ṣiffīn?” He replied, “Not even on the night of Ṣiffīn.” Agreed upon.
It has also reached us that whoever perseveres in these words will not feel fatigue in the work he undertakes and the like.
Hafṣah, Mother of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with her), reported: “When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, intended to sleep, he would place his right hand under his cheek and say three times: Allāhumma qinī ʿadhābaka yawma tabʿathu ʿibādak (O Allah, protect me from Your punishment on the Day You resurrect Your servants).” Recorded by Abu Dawud, and al-Tirmidhi graded the narration sound and authentic. The same wording is also transmitted through the chain of Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him).
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: “Whenever the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, retired to his bed he would say, ‘Praise be to Allah who has fed us, given us drink, sufficed us, and sheltered us; how many there are who have neither provision nor shelter.’” Recorded by Muslim.
