leave off these supplications when evening came and when morning came:
“O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religion and my worldly affairs, and in my family and my wealth. O Allah, conceal my faults and calm my fears. O Allah, protect me from in front of me, from behind me, on my right, on my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your Majesty from being taken unawares from beneath me.” Wakiʿ said: that means being swallowed by the earth. It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd, al-Nasāʾī, and Ibn Mājah, and al-Ḥākim declared its chain sound.
Ṭalq ibn Ḥabīb reported: “A man came to Abū al-Dardāʾ and said, ‘Abū al-Dardāʾ, your house has burned down!’ He replied, ‘It has not burned; Allah would never do that, because of some words I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Whoever says them at the start of the day will not be struck by any calamity until evening, and whoever says them at the end of the day will not be struck by any calamity until morning:
“O Allah, You are my Lord; there is no deity but You. In You I place my trust, and You are the Lord of the Mighty Throne. Whatever Allah wills comes to pass, and whatever He does not will does not come to pass. There is no might and no power except with Allah, the Most High, the Magnificent. I know that Allah is capable of all things, and that Allah encompasses all things in knowledge. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own self and from the evil of every creature whose forelock You hold. Truly, my Lord is on a straight path.”’
