Your servant, and I remain bound to Your covenant and promise as best I can. I acknowledge before You Your favor upon me, and I acknowledge my sin; so forgive me, for no one forgives sins except You. Whoever says this in the evening and then dies that night will enter Paradise, and whoever says it in the morning and then dies that day will enter Paradise.” Al-Bukhārī recorded this.
Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: “Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq (may Allah be pleased with him) said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, teach me something to say when I reach the morning and when I reach the evening.’ He replied, ‘O Allah, Knower of the unseen and the seen, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Lord and Sovereign of everything, I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own soul and from the evil of Satan and his snares— and in another wording: from bringing evil upon myself or dragging it onto a fellow Muslim. Say this when you reach the morning, when you reach the evening, and when you lie down to sleep.’ Al-Tirmidhī said: a good and sound hadith.
ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘No servant says each morning and each evening, “In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing in the earth or in the sky can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing,” three times, without being protected from all harm.’” Al-Tirmidhī said: a good and sound hadith.
