adorn herself with gold in a way that is forbidden to men. Allah, Exalted is He, says concerning women: awaman yunashsha’u fi al-ḥilyah wa huwa fi al-khiṣām ghayru mubīn (One who is brought up amid ornaments and, when engaged in argument, is unable to make the meaning clear) [az-Zukhruf 43:18].
From this the wisdom behind the Sharia’s ban on men wearing gold becomes evident. I would therefore like to advise those men who have fallen into the habit of adorning themselves with gold: by doing so they are disobeying Allah and His Messenger, imitating women, and—as authentically reported from the Prophet ﷺ—placing in their own hands a live coal from the Fire with which they adorn themselves. They must repent to Allah. If they wish, they may wear silver rings within the lawful limits; this carries no blame. Rings made of other metals are likewise permissible, provided they do not reach the level of extravagance or become a cause of temptation.
All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and all his Companions.
