and His Messenger. For Allah says, “We have sent you only as a bearer of glad tidings and a warner to all people” (Sabaʾ 34:28), and He, exalted is He, says, “Blessed is He who sent down the Criterion to His servant so that he might be a warner to all the worlds” (al-Furqan 25:1). His mission is therefore universal.
The Prophet ﷺ said, “Every prophet before me was sent exclusively to his own people, whereas I have been sent to all humanity” (1). The Messenger of Allah ﷺ also wrote to the kings of the earth inviting them to Islam, which shows that he was sent to all the inhabitants of the world, and he was commanded to wage jihad until people should enter Islam. All of this proves the universality of his mission ﷺ, and this belief is obligatory.
Thus the following tenets regarding him must be held:
First: that he is the servant of Allah and His Messenger.
Second: that he is the Seal of the Prophets—there will be no prophet after him.
Third: that his message is directed to both mankind and the jinn.
The evidence of its universality for mankind lies in the previously cited verses and in the Prophet’s correspondence.
As for its universality for the jinn, it is established by His words: “And when We turned toward you a band of jinn listening to the Quran; when they were present before it they said, ‘Listen attentively!’ Then, when it was concluded, they turned back to…" (al-Ahqaf 46:29).
