and recorded extraordinary accounts.
We believe in the resurrection and in the requital of deeds on the Day of Judgment; in the presentation before the Lord and the reckoning; in the receiving of the records; in reward and punishment; in the Bridge (Ṣirāṭ) and the Balance (Mīzān).
In his treatise “Until the Day of Resurrection” he cited wondrous narratives, and Ibn al-Qayyim related other marvels in his book ar-Rūḥ.
He stated: “All of this is accepted exactly as the reports from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ have come to us; for the bliss and torment of the grave belong to the unseen, and we affirm only what is supported by evidence and do not deny anything that has been transmitted. This is the creed of Ahl al-Sunnah wa-l-Jamāʿah.”
After the barzakh—the interval between death and resurrection—people will be raised from their graves. These graves enclose and preserve the bodies, and when the Resurrection arrives, Allah will re-create those bodies just as He fashioned them the first time, with nothing diminished: “Just as We originated the first creation, We shall bring it back—a promise binding upon Us; We will certainly do it” (Al-Anbiyā’ 21:104).
The bodies will be restored exactly as they were, such that if a person were to walk past someone he once knew, he would say, “This is so-and-so.” Then Allah will command Isrāfīl, and he will blow the Horn a second time; the souls will soar back to their bodies.
The Gathering (al-Mahshar) is the assembly of all nations. Allah will bring together the first and the last after the resurrection, for He is capable of all things. Belief in the resurrection is one of the six pillars of faith, as stated in the hadith.
