others is an unbeliever in them all—“We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” We also believe in the scriptures that were sent down to the messengers, and we testify that they were upon manifest truth.

One of the fundamentals and pillars of faith is to believe in the books that Allah revealed to the messengers for the guidance of creation. Allah, exalted is He, sent down these books—His own speech, revelation, and legislation—to the messengers so that they might convey them to their nations. Within them are commands and prohibitions, and they set forth the law of Allah, majestic and sublime.

Some of these books Allah has named for us in the Quran, while others He has not. We believe in them all, both those named and those unnamed: the Torah revealed to Moses, the Gospel revealed to Jesus, the Quran revealed to Muhammad ﷺ, the Psalms given to David—“And We gave David the Psalms” (al-Nisaʾ 4:163)—and the Scrolls of Abraham, upon him be peace. We affirm every one of them, holding that they promote human welfare, guide creation, and establish the divine proof. Whoever believes in some of the books and rejects others is an unbeliever in them all, for they are all the speech of Allah, and it is impermissible to accept some while denying the rest. Allah the Exalted says: “Do you then believe in part of the Book and disbelieve in part? The recompense of those among you who do that is nothing but disgrace in this worldly life” (al-Baqarah 2:85).

Likewise, a single book must be believed in as a whole and acted upon in its entirety; we may not cherry-pick what suits our passions and discard what does not.

Whoever denies any of Allah’s books, or any portion of a book, or even a single word or a single letter of it, has disbelieved in Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He.
