He sought, through the mere fantasy of his mind, to probe the Unseen—an utterly hidden secret—and came back with words that turn him into a lying, sinful fabricator. The ʿarsh (Throne) and the kursī (Footstool) are realities.
For decree and destiny are Allah’s own secret in His creation; do not search into them, nor are you charged with doing so. You have only been charged with action, obedience, and compliance.
Accordingly, every statement he makes and every investigation he undertakes is sheer fabrication—falsehood and sin, Allah’s refuge is sought—because he has done what he was not commanded to do and intruded into what is not his affair.
Allah, exalted is He, created the heavens, the earth, the kursī, and the ʿarsh; all are creatures of Allah. The heavens are above the earth; above the heavens lies the ocean; above the ocean is the kursī; and above the kursī is the ʿarsh, the loftiest of all created things. As the hadith says: “The seven heavens, in comparison with the kursī, are like seven coins cast into a shield.” That is, despite their vastness and all they contain, the seven heavens, when set against the kursī, resemble seven coins tossed into the round shield a combatant carries—how insignificant a proportion seven coins occupy in such a shield! About this Allah says, “His kursī extends over the heavens and the earth” (Al-Baqarah 2:255). The ʿarsh is greater than the kursī; the kursī in relation to the ʿarsh is like a ring
