In His Book He says, “He created everything and measured it exactly” (25:2), and He, exalted is He, also says, “The command of Allah is a destiny already decreed” (33:38).
So woe to the one who sets himself up as an adversary to Allah regarding destiny
and brings to that inquiry a diseased heart.
“He created everything and measured it exactly” (25:2); “The command of Allah is a destiny already decreed” (33:38); and “We have created all things according to a decree” (54:49). These three verses—along with many others—prove the necessity of believing in decree and predestination. Allah says, “No calamity befalls except by Allah’s permission” (64:11), and “No disaster strikes the earth or your own selves without its being in a Book” (57:22), meaning the Preserved Tablet.
Whoever plunges into the subject of decree and casts doubt upon it becomes an opponent of Allah. Faith is valid only when one affirms decree and predestination in its four stages, as stated in the Qur’an and the Sunnah. Do not involve yourself in speculative questions, troublesome curiosities, doubts, and misgivings, for that amounts to contending with Allah. Those who delved into decree achieved nothing; they merely fell into bewilderment, turmoil, and the corruption of belief.
The realities of decree, predestination, and Allah’s dealings cannot be grasped by reflection, speculation, or human reason. Do not burden your mind with what it cannot bear. The intellect is limited; it cannot comprehend everything. So do not thrust it into labyrinths and issues beyond its capacity.
