reducible to the four methods—consists in inferring the agent’s knowledge from the order and precision found in the world. Whatever demonstrates the agent’s knowledge demonstrates his existence with even greater force.”
[Ibn Taymiyyah’s Commentary]
I say:
The purpose here is to point out that what the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, brought is the truth, consonant with clear reason. The signs, evidence, and rational demonstrations he expounded to establish the existence of the Maker—glory be to Him—and knowledge of His attributes and actions surpass the highest achievements of human reason. The best that the most accomplished philosophers and speculative theologians, both earlier and later, possess is only a portion of what he brought. Yet they mingle truth with falsehood and therefore fail to present it properly.
Likewise, reasoning from things coming into existence to establish the existence of the Maker and Creator is an innate and self-evident method. It is the best method they possess; indeed, they have no sound method other than it. Yet they have introduced into it flaws and corruptions recognized by those skilled in rigorous inquiry and critical examination, whom Allah has granted guidance and sound judgment.
These matters have been discussed at length elsewhere.
