The messengers—may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon them—were sent to perfect and affirm the innate disposition, not to corrupt or alter it.

Allah Most High says:

“So direct your face toward the religion, inclining to truth. Adhere to the innate disposition with which Allah created humankind. There is no changing Allah’s creation. That is the upright religion, but most people do not know. * Turn to Him, fear Him, establish prayer, and do not be among those who associate partners with Him— * those who divided their religion and became sects, each faction rejoicing in what it has.”

(al-Rūm: 30 - 32)

In the two Sahih collections, it is reported:

“Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, related that the Prophet, may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him, said: ‘Every child is born upon the innate disposition. Then his parents make him a Jew, a Christian, or a Magian, just as an animal gives birth to a fully formed offspring. Do you see any among them that is mutilated?’

Then Abu Hurayrah said: ‘Recite, if you wish: “The innate disposition with which Allah created humankind.”’

They asked: ‘O Messenger of Allah, what about the children of those who associate partners with Allah who die while still young?’

He replied: ‘Allah knows best what they would have done.’”
