In the two Sahīh collections, Abū Hurayrah narrates that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“There are three whom Allah will neither speak to nor look at on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, and theirs will be a painful punishment: a man who swears an oath and thereby wrongfully takes a Muslim’s property; a man who falsely swears after the afternoon prayer that he has been offered more for his merchandise than he actually has; and a man who withholds surplus water. Allah will say, ‘Today I will withhold My bounty from you, just as you withheld the surplus of what your own hands did not produce.’”
In Sahīh Muslim:
“Abū Dharr narrates that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, ‘There are three whom Allah will neither speak to on the Day of Resurrection nor look at, nor will He purify them, and theirs will be a painful punishment.’
“He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, repeated these words three times. Abū Dharr then said, ‘They have failed and lost! Who are they, O Messenger of Allah?’
“He replied, ‘The one who lets his lower garment trail, the one who reminds others of his favors, and the one who sells his merchandise by swearing false oaths.’”
