In the two Sahīh collections, it is also narrated from him that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“There is not one of you but his Lord will speak to him, with no barrier or interpreter between them. He will look to his right and see nothing but the deeds he has sent ahead, and look to his left and see nothing but the deeds he has sent ahead. He will look before him and find the Fire facing him. Whoever among you can protect himself from the Fire, even by giving half a date, should do so. If he cannot find anything to give, then let him offer a kind word.”
In Sahīh Muslim, Abū Hurayrah narrates from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in the hadith concerning seeing Allah, that he said:
“He will meet the servant and say: ‘O so-and-so, did I not honour you, make you a leader, give you a spouse, place horses and camels at your service, and allow you to lead and take a quarter of the spoils?’
“The servant will reply: ‘Yes, my Lord.’ He said: ‘Then He will ask: “Did you think that you would meet Me?” The servant will reply: “No.” He will say: “I shall forsake you just as you forgot Me.” Then He will meet the second and say: “O so-and-so”—and he related the same exchange as with the first.
“Then He will meet the third, who will say: ‘I believed in You, Your Book and Your Messenger. I prayed, fasted and gave charity.’ He will speak as highly of himself as he can.
“He said: ‘Then He will say: “Stay here, then.”’ He said: ‘Then he will be asked: “Shall We send Our witness against you?” He will wonder to himself: “Who will testify against me?” His mouth will then be sealed, and his thigh will be told: “Speak!” His thigh, flesh and bones will speak of his deeds, whatever they were. This is so that the evidence from his own self leaves him without excuse. That is the hypocrite.’”
He then related the rest of the hadith.
