Darʾ Taʿâroud al-ʿAql wa-n-NaqlIbn Taimiya

and named by the Lord concerning Himself, by saying: ‘If He has such-and-such an attribute, He must also have such-and-such.’ Thus the obscure blinded him to the evident: he denied what the Lord had named concerning Himself on account of the Lord’s silence about what He had not named. Satan continued to draw him further into error until he denied Allah’s words, Exalted is He:

“On that Day faces will be radiant,
looking at their Lord.”
(Al-Qiyāmah: 22–23)

He said: ‘No one will see Him on the Day of Resurrection.’ By Allah, he thereby denied the greatest honour Allah will bestow upon His beloved servants on the Day of Resurrection: looking upon His Face in a seat of truth with an All-Powerful Sovereign. He has decreed that they will not die, and they will grow radiant through looking upon Him.’ He went on at length in a passage recorded elsewhere.

Another Statement by al-Khallāl in al-Sunnah

Al-Khallāl said in al-Sunnah:

“Alī ibn Īsā informed me that Hanbal narrated to them, saying: ‘I heard Abū Abd Allāh say: “Whoever claims that Allah did not speak to Moses has disbelieved in Allah, denied the Quran, and rejected the command of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He must be called upon to repent of this statement. If he repents, well and good; otherwise, his neck is to be struck.”’”

He said:

“I also heard Abū Abd Allāh say:

‘And Allah spoke to Moses’
(Al-Nisā’: 164).

He thus affirmed that He spoke to Moses as an honour bestowed upon Moses. Then He, Exalted is He, said, emphasising that He spoke:

‘directly’
(Al-Nisā’: 164).

I asked Abū Abd Allāh: ‘Will Allah, Mighty and Majestic, speak to His servant on the Day of Resurrection?’

He replied: ‘Yes. Who will judge between all creatures but Allah, Mighty and Majestic? He speaks to His servant and questions him. Allah
