Darʾ Taʿâroud al-ʿAql wa-n-NaqlIbn Taimiya

Al-Husayn ibn Masʿūd al-Baghawī said in his well-known Quranic commentary:

“Ibn ʿAbbās and most commentators of the early generations said: ‘He rose towards heaven’ means ‘He ascended to heaven.’ Al-Khalīl ibn Ahmad said likewise.”

Al-Bayhaqī reported in his Book of Attributes:

“Al-Farrāʾ said: ‘Then He rose’ means ‘He ascended,’ as Ibn ʿAbbās said. It is like saying of a man: ‘He was sitting, then rose to his feet.’”

Al-Shāfiʿī narrated in his Musnad, on the authority of Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said concerning Friday:

“It is the day on which your Lord rose over the Throne.”

The Quranic commentaries based on reports from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, the Companions, and the Successors—such as the commentary of Muhammad ibn Jarīr al-Tabarī, the commentary of ʿAbd al-Rahmān ibn Ibrāhīm, known as Duhaym, the commentary of ʿAbd al-Rahmān ibn Abī Hātim, and the commentary of Abū Bakr
