As for love for Allah’s sake, Allah Most High says:
“Dearer to you than Allah and His Messenger.” [Al-Tawbah: 24]
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said in an authentic hadith:
“There are three qualities which, whoever possesses them, will taste the sweetness of faith: that Allah and His Messenger are dearer to him than anything else; that he loves another solely for Allah’s sake; and that he hates to return to unbelief, after Allah has saved him from it, as much as he hates to be cast into the Fire.”
Another hadith states:
“The firmest bonds of faith are love for Allah’s sake and hatred for Allah’s sake. Whoever loves for Allah’s sake, hates for Allah’s sake, gives for Allah’s sake, and withholds for Allah’s sake has perfected his faith.”
This is the very meaning of Allah Most High’s words:
“Fight them until there is no more fitnah (religious strife) and religion is entirely for Allah.” [Al-Anfāl: 39]
In an authentic hadith, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“Allah says: ‘I am utterly free of any need for partners. Whoever performs a deed in which he associates another with Me, I disavow it, and it belongs entirely to the one he associated with Me.’”
Just as a single act cannot proceed from two independent agents, so two objects of desire cannot each be the sole object of the will. For one to be the sole object of desire and love contradicts the other being so. Whenever the object of desire does not stand alone
