the arguments of their fellow deniers of the divine attributes, then present arguments for negation that are weaker and more unsound than those they have criticized and refuted.
We shall quote his discussion of this. Having discussed the rational, scriptural method of establishing the Maker’s existence, he also discussed establishing His oneness, His affirmative and negative attributes, and His acts. He said:
On Divine Oneness
If it is asked: “If this is the scriptural method of knowing that the Maker—glorified is He—exists, what, then, is the scriptural method of knowing His oneness—that is, knowing that there is no god but Him? For this negation conveys a meaning additional to the affirmation contained in this statement. The affirmation has already been established by the preceding discussion; how, then, is the negation established?”
We reply:
As for denying divinity to anything besides Him, the scriptural method is the one Allah has expressly set out in His Book.
