And they used to say, “The angels are Allah’s daughters,” just as these people claim that the intellects—or the intellects and souls—are the angels, and that they are begotten from Allah.
He, Most High, said:
“They attribute daughters to Allah—glory be to Him—and reserve for themselves what they desire. When one of them is given news of a female child, his face darkens and he is filled with suppressed grief. He hides from his people because of the bad news he has received: should he keep her in humiliation or bury her in the dust? Evil indeed is their judgment! Those who do not believe in the Hereafter have the description of evil, whereas Allah has the highest description. And He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.”
Through to His words:
“They attribute to Allah what they themselves dislike, while their tongues falsely claim that the best awaits them. Without doubt, theirs will be the Fire, and they will be consigned to it.”
[Al-Nahl: 57–62]
And He, Most High, said:
“Or has He taken daughters from what He creates and favoured you with sons? Yet when one of them is given news of what he attributes to the Most Merciful, his face darkens and he is filled with suppressed grief. What! One brought up among ornaments and unable to make herself clear in a dispute? They have made the angels, who are servants of the Most Merciful, females. Did they witness their creation? Their testimony will be recorded, and they will be questioned.”
[Al-Zukhruf: 16–19]
And He, Most High, said:
“Have you considered al-Lāt and al-‘Uzzā, and Manāt, the third, the other one? Are males for you and females for Him? That, then, is an unfair division.”
[Al-Najm: 19–22]
That is, an unjust division. There are other such passages in the Quran.
Thus He, glorified be He, made clear that the Lord, the Creator, is more deserving than you of being declared free of imperfections. How, then, can you attribute to Him what you would dislike for yourselves and would be ashamed to have attributed to you, even though
