events from eternity past to the Flood is less than the possibility of their occurrence from eternity past to our own time, yet it does not follow that this possibility is finite.
Second:
The possibility of events occurring from the Flood onward forever is greater than the possibility of their occurring from now onward forever, yet it does not follow that this possibility is finite in the direction of the endless future.
Third:
Doubling one thousand infinitely many times yields less than doubling two thousand infinitely many times.
Fourth:
The things Allah knows are more numerous than the things within His power, although these are infinite.
He said:
“The answer to what they mentioned secondly—meaning the second proof—is that the dependence in question may mean that two things are nonexistent at a given time, and that the existence of one of them in the future is conditional upon the other nonexistent thing coming into existence before it. If this is the case, then we have a nonexistent thing whose existence is conditional upon things coming into existence in an infinite sequence, all of them nonexistent, with their coming into existence beginning from the time
