He said:
“There is nothing that does not know Allah, glorified be He. If the same judgment applied to all and their knowledge were identical, they would all be equal. Their inequality and differing degrees testify to the truth of what we have said, together with the corroboration of transmitted reports and the insights conveyed by the masters’ words. He is too majestic to be unknown, and too mighty for the knowledge of those who know Him to encompass Him, or for the insight of those endowed with insight to reach Him:
‘Vision cannot encompass Him, but He encompasses all vision. And He is the Most Subtle, the All-Aware.’
The Lord is known through His lordship, for His lordship is manifest: no denier can dismiss it, nor can any obstinate opponent deny it. He is too majestic to be hidden, too mighty to be measured against anything, and too great for minds to encompass Him or any conception to contain Him. He does not belong to the realm of unknown things, such that He must be inferred, nor is He circumscribed by the senses, such that minds could grasp Him.
We therefore know Him through what He has made known of Himself, and describe Him as He has described Himself, for through Him knowledge is acquired and proofs are found. He made Himself known to us, and made His messengers known to us through the miracles, proofs, and signs He manifested at their hands. Through their words He made Himself known to us, teaching us how to affirm His oneness, thank Him, and worship Him. For we have no access to what He wills of us except through what He has sent and taught, so that the kingdom may be linked to its Owner, and that we may affirm His oneness as He has affirmed His own oneness, and praise Him
