However, the hadith of Abū Hurayrah states that He showed them to Adam. In the hadith of ‘Umar and others, He said:
“These are for Paradise, and these are for the Fire.”
These reports thus establish predestination: Allah knew what would happen before it happened, and He knew the wretched and the blessed among Adam’s descendants—regardless of whether what He brought forth and Adam saw comprised them and their likenesses or their very persons.
As for their speaking, this is not mentioned in any reliably established hadith traced back to the Prophet, nor does the Quran indicate it. For the Quran says concerning this:
“And when your Lord took from the children of Adam—from their loins—their descendants and made them testify concerning themselves.”
Thus, He mentions taking them from the loins of the children of Adam—not from Adam himself. The term “their descendants” encompasses everyone descended from them, however numerous, as He says later in the same verse:
“Or lest you say, ‘Our forefathers associated others with Allah before us, and we were descendants after them.’”
Allah Most High also says:
“Indeed, Allah chose Adam and Noah, the family of Abraham and the family of ‘Imrān above all people—descendants of one another.”
And He says:
“Descendants of those We carried with Noah.”
And He says:
“And among his descendants were David, Solomon, Job, Joseph, Moses and Aaron,”
continuing to His words:
“And Zechariah, John, Jesus and Elijah.”
Thus, the term “descendants” includes adults.
