The point here is that it is well known among the early and later generations that all jinn and human beings acknowledge and affirm the Creator, even though most people are unfamiliar with the reasoning described by these people. It follows that the fundamental acknowledgment and affirmation of the Maker is firmly rooted in the hearts of all human beings and jinn. It is a necessary consequence of their creation, necessarily present in them—even supposing that it arose through some cause—just as their nourishment through food and drink is a necessary consequence of their creation and necessarily present in them.
This is the acknowledgment and testimony mentioned in His words:
“And when your Lord took from the children of Adam, from their loins, their descendants and made them testify concerning themselves, ‘Am I not your Lord?’ They said, ‘Yes, we bear witness’—lest you say on the Day of Resurrection, ‘We were indeed unaware of this,’ or say, ‘It was only our forefathers who associated partners with Allah before us, and we were descendants after them. Will You then destroy us for what those who followed falsehood did?’”
There are two views concerning this verse. Some say that this taking of testimony occurred when they were brought forth from Adam’s loins, as has been transmitted from a group of the early generations. Some have narrated it as a report traced back to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and al-Hākim mentioned it. However, its attribution to the Prophet is weak.
