Anyone who reflects on the revealed laws, especially the law brought by Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, will find this clearer than the sun.
Thus He says in the verse on fasting:
“Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship.”
And He says in the verse on purification:
“Allah does not intend to impose hardship on you, but He intends to purify you and complete His favour upon you.”
And He says:
“He has placed no hardship upon you in religion.”
In the two Sahīh collections, the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, is reported to have said:
“You have been sent only to make things easy, not to make them difficult.”
He, Glorified is He, waives obligations when a sick person fears that his illness will worsen or his recovery be delayed. Thus He waives standing in prayer, fasting during its prescribed month, and likewise purification with water. Indeed, even when a traveller is able to fast, He waives the obligation to fast during that month. He says:
“And whoever is ill or on a journey, let him fast an equal number of other days. Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship.”
