Darʾ Taʿâroud al-ʿAql wa-n-NaqlIbn Taimiya

And the Most High says:

“And the word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and justice.”

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

“Judges are of three kinds: two are in the Fire, and one is in Paradise. A man who knows the truth and judges accordingly is in Paradise. A man who judges between people in ignorance is in the Fire. A man who knows the truth but judges contrary to it is in the Fire.”

Recorded by the compilers of the Sunan.

It is well known that judging between people concerning their beliefs and statements is a weightier matter than judging between them concerning their commercial transactions and wealth.

The Most High also says:

“So call people to this, and remain steadfast as you have been commanded. Do not follow their desires, but say, ‘I believe in whatever Scripture Allah has sent down, and I have been commanded to judge justly between you. Allah is our Lord and your Lord. For us are our deeds, and for you are your deeds. There is no argument between us and you. Allah will bring us together, and to Him is the final return.’”
