and that of a temporally originated being for the One who brings it into being. Accordingly, the ways in which the Truth—glorified is He—makes Himself known in revelation follow this pattern:

‘Or who responds to the distressed when he calls upon Him?’

‘Say, “Who rescues you from the darkness of land and sea?”’

‘And who provides for you from heaven and earth?’

‘Or who originates creation and then repeats it?’”

He said:

“In this sense, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: ‘Allah created His servants with knowledge of Him, but the devils turned them away from it.’ That knowledge is the inescapable sense of need, while Satan’s turning them away consists in his making self-sufficiency and the denial of need seem appealing. The messengers are sent to remind people of the original state of their innate disposition and to purify it of Satan’s beguilements
