Darʾ Taʿâroud al-ʿAql wa-n-NaqlIbn Taimiya

As for the second category—establishing possibility and power through reflection and a fortiori reasoning—He, glorified be He, sometimes demonstrates this through the creation of plants, explaining that His power to bring the dead to life is like His power to cause plants to grow.

At other times, He demonstrates this through the creation of living creatures themselves: His power to recreate them is like His power to create them initially—indeed, it follows all the more clearly.

At still other times, He explains this through His power to create the heavens and the earth, as in His words, Most High:

“O mankind, if you are in doubt about the Resurrection, then We created you from dust, then from a drop of sperm, then from a clinging clot, then from a lump of flesh, formed and unformed, so that We may make things clear to you. We cause whatever We will to remain in the wombs for an appointed term, then We bring you forth as infants, and then you reach full maturity. Among you are those who die, and among you are those who are reduced to the most decrepit age, so that they know nothing after having had knowledge. You see the earth lifeless, but when We send water down upon it, it stirs and swells and brings forth every beautiful kind of growth. * That is because Allah is the Truth, because He gives life to the dead, and because He has power over all things; * and because the Hour is coming—there is no doubt about it—and because Allah will raise those in the graves.”

These sublime words contain more forms of reasoning by comparison than can be discussed here.

He, Most High, also says:

“It is He who sends the winds bearing glad tidings ahead of His mercy. When they bear heavy clouds, We drive them to a lifeless land, then send down water through them and bring forth every kind of fruit with it. Thus do We bring forth the dead, so that you may take heed.”
