to the caller’s summons. This provided evidence plain to anyone with discernment.
These, then, are five accounts of human beings being brought back to life, one of an animal being brought back to life, one of food and drink being preserved, and one of birds being brought back to life.
Elsewhere, there is also mention of the Messiah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—bringing the dead back to life, and of the Companions of the Cave remaining asleep for three hundred and nine years, neither eating nor drinking, yet alive and without decay.
He says in their story:
“And thus We caused them to be discovered, so that they might know that Allah’s promise is true and that there is no doubt about the Hour.”
These accounts describe actual occurrences that provide some of the strongest proofs of Allah’s power to bring the dead to life and of the possibility of this.
The truth of these reports is known through the same evidence by which the Messenger’s truthfulness is known. It is also known through other reports transmitted independently of the Messenger. Relating these accounts to them is among the signs of his prophethood, as has been explained at length elsewhere.
