a fortiori reasoning to refute their claim that He has daughters while they have sons. He did not use this argument to deny offspring altogether, as those who misrepresent the Quran claim.
Allah Most High says:
“They assign to what they do not know a share of what We have provided them. By Allah, you will surely be questioned about what you used to fabricate.”
“And they attribute daughters to Allah—glory be to Him—while claiming for themselves what they desire. When one of them is given news of a daughter, his face darkens and he suppresses his grief. He hides himself from the people because of the ill tidings he has received. Should he keep her in humiliation or bury her in the dust? Evil indeed is their judgment! The attributes of evil belong to those who do not believe in the Hereafter, whereas the highest attributes belong to Allah. And He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.”
The passage continues to His words, Most High:
“They attribute to Allah what they themselves dislike, and their tongues falsely assert that the best will be theirs. Without doubt, the Fire awaits them, and to it they will be consigned.”
He, glorified and exalted be He, thus explains that they consider themselves superior to their Lord, attribute to Him what they themselves dislike, and falsely claim that the best will be theirs. They claim for themselves what they desire; yet if one of them receives news of the very thing they attribute to Allah, his face darkens, and he hides himself from the people because of the ill tidings he has received: should he keep her in humiliation or bury her in the dust? Evil indeed is their judgment!
He, glorified be He, thus makes clear that this judgment is an evil one. As He Most High says in another verse:
“Are you to have males and He females? That would indeed be an unfair division.”
That is, an unjust division.
And He says in
