‘I find a verse in the Book of Allah indicating that the Quran is created.’

We said, ‘Which verse?’

He said, ‘The words of Allah, Mighty and Majestic:

“The Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah and His word which He conveyed to Mary.”

And Jesus is created.’

We said, ‘Allah has denied you understanding of the Quran. Expressions apply to Jesus that do not apply to the Quran: he is called a newborn, a nursing infant, a child, and a boy; he eats and drinks; commands and prohibitions are addressed to him, and promises and warnings apply to him. Moreover, he is a descendant of Noah and of Abraham. It is therefore not permissible for us to say of the Quran what we say of Jesus. Have you ever heard Allah say of the Quran what He said of Jesus?

But as for the meaning of the words of Allah, exalted be His praise:
