that Allah required them to observe under His law. He—peace be upon him—called them all to this and drew their attention to their having been brought into existence, pointing to the differences in their forms and bodily configurations, as well as their languages. He showed them how to know their Maker through the signs within themselves and others that establish His existence and indicate His will and governance. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said:
“And within yourselves—will you not then see?”
[al-Dhāriyāt: 21]
Thus, through their passage through the various forms they had assumed, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, drew their attention to this. He, Glorified be He, explained it to them in His words:
“We certainly created man from an extract of clay. Then We made him a drop of fluid in a secure resting place. Then We made the drop into a clinging clot, then made the clot into a lump of flesh, then made the lump into bones, then clothed the bones with flesh; then We brought him forth as another creation. So blessed is Allah, the best of creators.”
[al-Mu'minūn: 12–14]
This is among the clearest indications that man was brought into existence
