in agreement with and confirming that. Whenever the Jews mentioned reports concerning this in his presence, he would recite passages from the Quran that confirmed them.
Thus, the two Sahīh collections relate from Abdullah ibn Masʿūd:
“A Jew said to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: ‘On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will hold the heavens on one finger, the earths on one finger, the mountains on one finger, the trees and soil on one finger, and all remaining creatures on one finger. Then He will shake them and say: I am the King! Where are the kings of the earth?’ The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, laughed in wonder and in confirmation of the Jewish scholar’s words. Then he recited the words of the Most High:
‘They have not appraised Allah with true appraisal, while the earth entirely will be within His grip on the Day of Resurrection, and the heavens will be folded in His right hand. Exalted is He and high above what they associate with Him.’
[al-Zumar: 67].”
He himself, peace and blessings be upon him, also related things consistent with this on more than one occasion, as in the hadith of Ibn ʿUmar in the two Sahīh collections:
“The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, recited this verse from the pulpit and then said: ‘Allah says: I am the Compeller, I am the Supremely Great, I am the Most Exalted’—extolling Himself. He said: ‘The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, kept repeating these words until the pulpit shook beneath him, so much so that we thought it would collapse with him upon it.’”
We mentioned all this when explaining that the supposedly rational propositions which contradict these texts are not needed to establish the truthfulness of the Messenger. Therefore, understand
