this, he is independent of others, he acts solely out of beneficence and mercy. This is the utmost perfection.
Allah, glorified be He, has declared Himself in the Quran free of the son and partner the Christians claim for Him. He, Most High, said:
“O People of the Scripture, do not go to excess in your religion or say anything about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, His word which He conveyed to Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and do not say, ‘Three.’ Desist—it is better for you. Allah is but one God. Exalted is He!” [al-Nisā’: 171].
He, Most High, said:
“Those who say, ‘Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary,’ have certainly disbelieved. Say, ‘Who could prevent Allah in any way if He intended to destroy the Messiah, son of Mary, his mother, and everyone on earth?’” [al-Mā’idah: 17].
He, Most High, said:
“Those who say, ‘Allah is the third of three,’ have certainly disbelieved. There is no god except one God. If they do not desist from what they say, a painful punishment will surely afflict those among them who disbelieve. * Will they not, then, repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness? Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” [al-Mā’idah: 73–74].
He then mentioned the Jews and the Christians together in His words:
“The Jews say, ‘Ezra is the son of Allah,’ and the Christians say, ‘The Messiah is the son of Allah.’ These are words they utter with their mouths, imitating the words of those who disbelieved before them. May Allah destroy them! How are they deluded!” [al-Tawbah: 30].
Anyone who gives careful attention to the Quran knows that the majority of Jews do not say that Ezra is the son of Allah. Rather, only a group of them said this, as it has been reported that it was said by Finhās ibn
