the Children of Israel and others would have been expected to raise in their obstinate objections to Moses. For they and others who obstinately challenged Moses are reported to have raised allegations that cannot be established by clear reason. They harmed Moses, saying that he had testicular swelling and that he had killed Aaron. Korah secretly sent a prostitute to accuse him of fornication, seeking thereby to harm Moses.
Allah Most High said:
“O you who believe, do not be like those who harmed Moses; Allah cleared him of what they said.”
[Al-Ahzāb: 69]
Yet these attempts to harm Moses involved allegations unsupported by clear reason. Had what he told them contradicted clear reason, attacking him on that account would have been a clearer and more obvious way of harming him, and more fitting for anyone seeking to do so.
Allah Most High also said:
“O Children of Israel, remember My favor which I bestowed upon you and that I preferred you over the worlds.”
[Al-Baqarah: 47]
And He said:
“And when Moses said to his people, ‘O my people, remember Allah’s favor upon you when He appointed prophets among you, made you kings, and gave you what He had not given anyone among the worlds.’”
[Al-Mā’idah: 20]
And He said:
“We certainly gave the Children of Israel the Scripture, judgment, and prophethood, provided them with good things, and preferred them over the worlds.”
[Al-Jāthiyah: 16]
These people lived alongside the Romans, Copts, Nabataeans, and Persians, who were the leaders of the philosophers, as well as Sabians and polytheists of every kind.
