is an astonishing thing! * When we have died and become dust? That is a far-fetched return!’ * We know what the earth consumes of them, and with Us is a record that preserves everything.”
[Qāf: 1–4]
He then set out the proofs against them, culminating in His words:
“Were We wearied by the first creation? Yet they are in doubt about a new creation.”
[Qāf: 15]
This surah contains such fundamental principles of faith that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would recite it at major gatherings: in the Friday sermon and in the Eid prayer. He recited it frequently, including in the dawn prayer. All of this is established in authentic hadith.
Allah Most High said:
“They say, ‘When we have become bones and crumbled remains, will we really be raised as a new creation?’ * Say, ‘Be stones or iron, * or any created thing you consider even harder to bring to life.’ Then they will say, ‘Who will bring us back?’ Say, ‘The One who created you the first time.’ Then they will shake their heads at you and say, ‘When will that be?’ Say, ‘Perhaps it will be soon.’ * On the Day He calls you, you will respond with His praise, and you will think that you remained only a little while.”
[Al-Isrā’: 49–52]
He has mentioned similar statements from earlier peoples who denied the messengers, as in what they said about their messenger:
“Does he promise you that, when you have died and become dust and bones, you will be brought forth? * Far, far-fetched is what you are promised! * There is nothing but our life in this world
