that, and explain the truth brought by the Messenger through rational analogies and illustrative examples. This is the method of the Book, the Sunnah, and the early generations of the Muslim community. Allah, glorified and exalted be He, sets forth examples in His Book and demonstrates through rational proofs His oneness, the truthfulness of His messengers, the reality of the Resurrection, and other fundamentals of religion. He also answers the objections of the polytheists, as He Most High says:
“They do not come to you with an argument except that We bring you the truth and the best explanation.” [al-Furqān: 33]
The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, likewise followed this approach when addressing people. When he said:
“‘Not one of you will fail to be alone with his Lord, just as one of you is alone with the moon on the night of the full moon.’
Abū Razīn al-‘Uqaylī asked him, ‘How, O Messenger of Allah, when He is one and we are many?’
He replied, ‘I will give you an example of this from Allah’s blessings: this moon is one of Allah’s signs; each of you sees it while alone with it. Allah is greater.’”
When he also asked him about bringing the dead back to life, he illustrated it for him with the example of bringing vegetation back to life.
