These deniers frequently speak on the basis of illusions and false imaginings, attribute deficiencies and imperfections to Allah, and liken Him to created beings—indeed, to deficient things, nonexistent things, and even impossible things. Those who affirm His attributes describe Him with attributes of perfection, declare Him free of deficiencies and faults, and deny that He has an equal or counterpart in any of His attributes. Whatever accusations the deniers level against them—claiming that they judge according to illusions and false imaginings, attribute deficiencies and faults to Allah, or liken Him to created beings—are more fittingly applied to the deniers themselves, more closely associated with them, and more deserved by them. For you will find no one who denies Allah the attributes of perfection with which He has described Himself without his position entailing that Allah be described with the resulting deficiencies and faults and likened to created beings. You will also find that he has conceived illusions and false imaginings that do not correspond to reality, and has built his position upon them. Such is their imagining that, if Allah is above the Throne, He must need the Throne, just as a king seated upon his throne needs it.
This is precisely the false likening and unsound analogy in question: attributing to Allah incapacity and dependence upon creation, and imagining that His rising over the Throne is like that of a created being. Do they not know that we must affirm attributes of perfection for Allah and deny that He resembles created beings, and that:
“There is nothing like Him”
[al-Shūrā: 11]
—neither in His essence, nor in His attributes, nor in His actions? He must therefore be declared free of deficiencies and imperfections, and of resemblance to any created being. This necessarily entails affirming attributes of perfection and completeness, in which the Possessor of Majesty and Honor has no equal.
To explain this here: Allah has no need of anything besides Him, and He is the Creator of every
