Rather, even if the revealed proofs were assumed to conflict, preference would undoubtedly be given to those that are more numerous and stronger in their indication. It is thus clear that what the texts affirming Allah’s being above His creation entail cannot be set aside on the basis of the premise he established through revelation.
That revealed premise must rest either on a text or on consensus. There is no text addressing this issue. As for consensus, he himself says that it is impossible to ascertain the consensus of those who came after the Companions. It is well known that nothing reported from the Companions, the Successors, or the renowned imams establishes his contention. Rather, the reports transmitted from them through numerous independent channels support affirming Allah’s being above His creation, not denying it.
Moreover, he regards consensus as a proof yielding only probable knowledge. Yet the texts indicating that Allah is above His creation are more numerous and stronger in their indication than the texts establishing the authority of consensus. How, then, can numerous texts whose meaning is clear be set aside by texts that are less clear and less numerous?
In short, anyone who bases the claim that Allah, Exalted is He, is not above the Throne on a revealed premise holds an exceedingly weak position, however he argues for it, whether he claims that premise rests on a text or on consensus. His position is also utterly unsound rationally, as anyone acquainted with the true nature of rational proofs knows. It is therefore invalid in light of both sound transmitted evidence and unambiguous rational evidence. Allah speaks the truth and guides to the way.
