the Throne, above the seven heavens, as the community has affirmed. It is among their proofs against the Muʿtazilah’s assertion that Allah is everywhere.”

He said:

“The evidence that the position of those who uphold the truth is correct is His statement, Exalted is He ...”

He cited several verses, then said:

“This is too widely known and recognized among ordinary people and scholars alike to require more than stating it. For it is an immediate certainty that no one taught them, and no Muslim has ever denied it to them.”

Abū ʿUmar also said:

“The scholars among the Companions and the Successors from whom Quranic interpretation was transmitted unanimously agreed. In explaining His statement, Exalted is He:

‘There is no private conversation among three but He is their fourth’ [al-Mujādilah: 7],

they said: He is upon the Throne, and His knowledge is everywhere. No one whose opinion carries authority disagreed with them on this.”

العرش فوق سبع سماوات، كما قالت الجماعة، وهو من حجتهم على أن المعتزلة في قولهم: إن الله بكل مكان) . قال: (والدليل على صحة قول أهل الحق قوله تعالى..... ) وذكر عدة آيات إلى أن قال: (هذا أشهر وأعرف عند العامة والخاصة من أن يحتاج إلى أكثر من حكايته. لأنه اضطرار لم يوقفهم عليه أحد، ولا أنكره عليهم مسلم) . وقال أبو عمر أيضاً: (أجمع علماء الصحابة والتابعين الذين حمل عنهم التأويل، قالوا في تأويل قوله تعالى: {ما يكون من نجوى ثلاثة إلا هو رابعهم} [المجادلة: ٧] : هو على العرش، وعلمه في كل مكان، وما خالفهم في ذلك أحد يحتج بقوله) .
