Darʾ Taʿâroud al-ʿAql wa-n-NaqlIbn Taimiya

And we said to them:

“Do you not know that Iblīs occupies a place? Allah would not, then, be together with Iblīs in the same place.”

Rather, the meaning of Allah’s words, Mighty and Majestic:

“And He is Allah in the heavens and on the earth” [Āl ‘Imrān: 129],

is that He is the God of those in the heavens and the God of those on earth. Allah is above the Throne, and His knowledge encompasses everything below the Throne. No place is devoid of Allah’s knowledge, nor is His knowledge confined to one place rather than another.

This is expressed in His words, Most High:

“So that you may know that Allah has power over all things and that Allah encompasses all things in knowledge” [al-Talāq: 12].

An illustration of this is that if a man held in his hands a cup of clear glass containing something clear, his sight would encompass the cup,
