[The Forty-Third Argument]
It may be said:
Those who oppose the Quran and Sunnah with their own opinions cannot say that each of two conflicting proofs is certain, yet the two contradict one another irreconcilably. No rational person who understands what he is saying would make such a claim.
Rather, the most they say is that scriptural proofs do not yield certainty, and that whatever contradicts them among transmitted scriptural proofs… And they ascribe certainty to their invented proofs that contradict them, which they claim are conclusive demonstrations.
Thus, their position necessarily entails deviation from the faith and hypocrisy, turning away from what the Messenger brought and embracing what contradicts it. They resemble those who disputed with the messengers, whom Allah Most High mentions in His Book, saying:
“Every nation plotted against their messenger to seize him, and disputed with falsehood to refute the truth thereby. So I seized them, and how terrible was My punishment!” [Ghāfir: 5].
