Since this is so, it may be said:
What revelation indicates is known and agreed upon, whereas the indication of the rational arguments said to oppose it is neither known nor agreed upon; rather, it is greatly disputed. Thus, what rational people agree is known cannot be opposed by something whose contrary indication they dispute.
Know that the people of truth do not impugn rational proofs as a category, nor anything whose validity reason has established. They impugn only what an opponent claims contradicts the Quran and the Sunnah.
Among such arguments—praise be to Allah—there is no proof that is valid in reality, no proof generally accepted by rational people, and no proof that has not been challenged on rational grounds.
Accordingly, we now say:
[Twelfth Argument. Reason recognizes the invalidity of every rational argument that contradicts revelation]
Twelfth Argument.
Reason recognizes the invalidity of every rational argument that contradicts revelation
Reason recognizes the invalidity of every rational argument that contradicts revelation, even if it does not oppose reason. Whatever reason establishes to be invalid cannot be used to oppose either reason or revelation.
This general statement is elaborated by examining the arguments of those adherents of religious innovation who oppose the Sunnah, and demonstrating through reason the invalidity and contradictions of those arguments. Praise be to Allah, people have continually made this clear. Whoever reflects on this will find a wealth of rational arguments demonstrating the invalidity of the rational arguments that contradict revelation—a wealth whose extent only Allah knows.
