Sijistān and among its most truthful—on the authority of Zuhayr ibn Nu‘aym al-Bābī, who heard Sallām ibn Abī Mutī‘ say: ‘The Jahmiyyah are unbelievers.’
I heard Muhammad ibn al-Mu‘tamir say: ‘I heard Zuhayr ibn Nu‘aym say: Hammād ibn Zayd was asked about Bishr al-Marīsī while I was with him in the market of Basra. He replied, “That man is an unbeliever.”’
Uthmān ibn Sa‘īd said:
I was informed that Yazīd ibn Hārūn said: ‘The Jahmiyyah are unbelievers.’ He also said: ‘I urged the people of Baghdad more than once to kill al-Marīsī.’
Yahyā al-Himmānī narrated to us: al-Hasan ibn al-Rabī‘ narrated to us: I heard Ibn al-Mubārak say: ‘Whoever claims that His words,
“Indeed, I am Allah; there is no deity except Me.” [Tā Hā: 14]
are created is an unbeliever.’
I heard Mahbūb ibn Mūsā al-Antākī mention that he had heard Wakī‘ declare the Jahmiyyah unbelievers.
He said: ‘He also narrated from Sufyān al-Thawrī, on the authority of Hammād ibn Abī Sulaymān, that the latter declared anyone who claimed that the Quran was created an unbeliever. I also heard al-Rabī‘ ibn Nāfi‘, Abū Tawbah, declare the Jahmiyyah unbelievers.’
