Thus, when you say to the heretical deniers:
“Affirming the resurrection is a self-evident teaching of the Messenger’s religion,”
we say to you:
“Affirming the divine attributes, Allah’s being on high, and His actions is likewise a self-evident teaching of the Messenger’s religion.”
Statements from heretical deniers such as Ibn Sīnā and others have already been cited that demonstrate this. Anyone who carefully considers the statements of the early generations and the imams on this subject knows that they regarded the Jahmiyyah, who deny the divine attributes, as belonging among the heretical deniers and heretics.
Thus, when Imam Ahmad composed his work on this subject, he entitled it Refutation of the Heretics and the Jahmiyyah. Likewise, al-Bukhārī entitled the final book of his Sahīh The Book of Divine Oneness and the Refutation of the Heretics and the Jahmiyyah.
ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Mubārak said:
“We can indeed recount the statements of the Jews and Christians, but we cannot recount the statements of the Jahmiyyah.”
Yūsuf ibn Asbāt and Ibn al-Mubārak said:
“Religious innovation has four foundations: the Shiites, the Kharijites, the Murjiʾites, and the Qadarites.”
They were asked, “And the Jahmiyyah?” They replied, “The Jahmiyyah do not belong to the community of Muhammad.”
Something similar is reported from al-Zuhrī, who said:
“The Jaʿdī does not belong to the community of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.”
[Al-Dārimī’s statements in Refutation of the Jahmiyyah]
ʿUthmān ibn Saʿīd al-Dārimī said in his book Refutation of the Jahmiyyah:
