chains of transmission:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“There will be trials.
I asked, ‘What is the way out of them, O Messenger of Allah?’
He replied, ‘The Book of Allah. It contains accounts of those before you, news of what will come after you, and judgment concerning what occurs between you. It is decisive, not frivolous. Any tyrant who abandons it, Allah will crush; whoever seeks guidance elsewhere, Allah will lead astray. It is Allah’s firm rope, the wise Reminder, and the straight path. Through it, desires do not stray, opinions do not diverge, and tongues do not become confused. It does not wear out through repeated recitation; its wonders never cease, and scholars never have their fill of it. Whoever speaks according to it speaks the truth; whoever judges by it judges justly; whoever acts upon it is rewarded; and whoever calls to it is guided to a straight path.’”
A detailed discussion of such matters would be very lengthy; here we have merely drawn attention to their underlying principle.
[The Twenty-Ninth Argument]
It may be said:
Reason entails our knowledge of revelation and is, in turn, entailed by it.
It is well known that when entailment operates in one direction, the existence of the antecedent entails the existence of the consequent, and the absence of the consequent entails the absence of the antecedent. How much more so, then, when the entailment operates in both directions?
